RSNO and RSNO Youth Chorus to perform three concerts at 2024 Edinburgh International Festival Posted Thu 7 March 2024
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) returns to the Edinburgh International Festival this summer, continuing its long-running artistic relationship with the festival with three concerts in its 2024 programme.
The RSNO opens the festival with an international programme, performing Osvalda Golijov’s La Pasión según San Marcos with the National Youth Choir of Scotland and the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela, conducted by Joana Carneiro. The Schola Cantorum de Venezuela premiered the work in 2000 and brings a wealth of experience from touring the piece worldwide to its performance with the RSNO and NYCOS.
The following day, the RSNO Youth Chorus will join the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for a special performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion arr Mendelssohn, conducted by Chief Conductor of the BBC SSO, Ryan Wigglesworth.
Later in August, the RSNO reunites with former Principal Guest Conductor Elim Chan for Three Concerti in a concert jam-packed with talent. Alison Balsom joins the Orchestra for Wynton Marsalis’ Trumpet Concerto, Pierre-Laurent Aimard performs Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto and the evening closes with the RSNO in the spotlight with Lutosławski’s Concerto for Orchestra.
