The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) launches its 2024:25 Dundee Concert Season under the baton of Music Director Thomas Søndergård, returning to the Caird Hall with four Classical concerts and two family-friendly favourites.
The 2024:25 Concert Season brings a host of new artists to the RSNO stage as it celebrates new works alongside giants of the orchestral canon and both up-and-coming and established soloists. The programme is furnished by a suite of illustrations from Scottish illustrator Katie Smith, raising the familiar faces of the RSNO to its forefront.
Music Director Thomas Søndergård follows on from two successful European Tours during the 2023:24 Concert Season with two performances for Dundee audiences. In October, he conducts Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, performed by celebrated pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja, alongside Haydn’s symphony The Bear.
Goosby will perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in a programme also featuring Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune and Lera Auerbach’s Symphony No1 Chimera. The performance of Auerbach’s piece follows the appearance of the work’s first movement, Icarus, in the 2023:24 Season Opener.
In a Valentine’s concert of Wagner arias and Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique Symphony, soprano Sunyoung Seo performs with conductor David Niemann following the singer’s successful debut with Scottish Opera last season.
In April, conductor Jonathon Heyward returns for the Scottish Premiere of Anna Clyne’s Glasslands with saxophonist Jess Gillam before a performance of Shostakovich’s Eight Symphony, marking the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death.
The RSNO presents its magical Christmas concert featuring The Snowman, this year narrated by Still Game’s Sanjeev Kohli. In another family-friendly concert for the whole family, movie maestro Richard Kaufman returns for an evening celebrating the music of John Williams in May.
The RSNO’s digital series will be made available to watch for free on the RSNO YouTube channel in its new series, Watch Again Wednesdays. Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique Symphony and Spectacular Shostakovich will bring Scotland’s National Orchestra from Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall into the homes of audience members across the world. The concerts will be broadcast on the Wednesday following the live concert and available to watch on demand.

The priority booking period for 2024:25 Dundee multibuy customers opens at 10am on Wednesday 24 April, with tickets on general sale from Monday 13 May. Customers who book all four Classical Concerts save 20% on their multibuy booking.
