RSNO appoints Nikita Naumov as Principal Double Bass Posted Tue 26 November 2024
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has appointed Nikita Naumov to the position of Principal Double Bass. Naumov joins from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, where he has been Section Principal since 2010. He continues to teach double bass at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and holds masterclasses across the country.
Nikita Naumov was appointed to the RSNO following a successful audition and trial period as Guest Principal Double Bass. During this period, he performed with the RSNO at the Edinburgh International Festival with Elim Chan and Alison Balsom, Classic FM Live at the Royal Albert Hall and a host of classical and pops concerts. He makes his final Scottish Chamber Orchestra appearance in March 2025 for Peter Eötvös’ Aurora for Double Bass and string orchestra with accordion.
Principal Double Bass Nikita Naumov said: ‘After 15 happy years with Scottish Chamber Orchestra it is an honour to be joining the RSNO as their Principal Bass. I’m looking forward to playing the wide range of repertoire in the season and working with this fantastic group of musicians.’
Naumov joins the RSNO with immediate effect and audiences will be able to see him in position for the Orchestra’s performances of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite with Music Director Thomas Søndergård in Edinburgh and Glasgow this weekend.
The RSNO Principal Double Bass is supported by the Gregor Forbes John Clark Chair.
