SPECIAL COMMENDATION TO RSNO MUSICIAN FROM SALOMON PRIZE COMMITTEE Posted Sat 12 September 2020
The 2020 Salomon Prize committee has given Special Commendation RSNO Viola player Katherine Wren, recognising her contribution to all aspects of orchestral life and her work Nordic Viola, a project to create and share music with people in remote reaches of the North Atlantic.
In considering entries for the prize from across the UK, the panel made special commendation of Katherine Wren. Alongside her active involvement in all aspects of orchestral life, Katherine created Nordic Viola, a project designed both to create and share music with people in remote reaches of the North Atlantic. The panel said “the positive energy and passionate curiosity Katherine brings to the orchestra is inspirational and engaging to all who know and work with her; as one colleague puts it, “She inspires just by being herself.””
Katherine Wren said: “I am really honoured to receive a special commendation for the RPS/Salomon Prize. The RSNO is a very special and inspiring community to work for and I’d like to thank my colleagues (several of whom also play alongside me in Nordic Viola) and all at the RSNO for their support.”
