As we look towards the Nordic Music Days festival coming to Scotland in the autumn of 2024, this 3-part showcase is one of a series of events which will take place around the country over the next 11 months, exploring the contemporary music scenes in the Nordic countries and here in Scotland.

Presented by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Föreninten Svenska Tonsättare (Swedish Society of Composers), and supported by Sweden’s performing rights society, STIM, this event is an opportunity to discover new musical voices from a country whose cultural influences are strongly felt in Scotland. A land of vast proportions, where the Northern Lights are frequent visitors, and whose design and architecture are the subject of many a coffee-table book. Does the music translate into the stereotypes of Scandi-noir, clean line minimalism, or flat-pack efficiency? This is your chance to find out… Each concert will feature a selection of works for either ensemble or electronics, giving the audience a snapshot of what is happening in each country.

Concert I (4pm) features Swedish contemporary music specialists Gageego! showcasing the latest in Swedish chamber and electronic music.

Concert II (6pm) features a snapshot of Scottish new music with Hebrides Ensemble, in a programme of chamber music for violin, viola, cello, and horn, alongside works for electronics.

Concert III (8pm) Swedish contemporary music specialists Gageego! round off the first Nordic Music Journeys event of the year with works by Swedish creators.

Each concert is 1 hour. Tickets are £5 for each concert, or book all three for £10. Simply add the concerts to your basket and the offer will be automatically applied.
