RSNO Film Composers Lab announces 2024 participants Posted Wed 13 November 2024
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) announces five successful candidates taking part in the 2024 iteration of its Film Composers Lab professional development scheme, delivered this year in partnership with GMAC Film.
Crea Sullivan, Mina Samy, Kim Moore, Lara Simpson and Kornélia Nemcová will be mentored by industry professionals John Lunn (Downtown Abbey, Shetland, The Last Kingdom) and film and video game composer Danai Kokogia, co-mentor of the RSNO’s Film Composers Lab since its pilot. The project will culminate in a public screening of the newly scored films in July 2025 and one of the works will be selected for performance as part of the RSNO’s 2025:26 Concert Season.
The RSNO’s Film Composers Lab is a pioneering programme which offers early-career, UK-based composers the experience of composing for the screen and the opportunity to collaborate with a professional orchestra. Working closely with the Orchestra, RSNO staff and experts from the film and music industries, participants will rescore an existing short film, creating a brand-new composition which will be recorded by Scotland’s National Orchestra at Scotland’s Studio. This year, the partnership with GMAC Film will link aspiring film composers directly with their film-making peers, providing networking opportunities and key industry experience.
Composer and Mentor John Lunn said: ‘I am delighted to be returning to the Film Composers Lab scheme and to have the opportunity to work with some of the best young talent around in truly world class facilities. It is a project very dear to me as is my continued association with the RSNO.’
RSNO Director of Engagement Andy Stevenson added: ‘I’m thrilled that we have once again have such a talented group of emerging film composers to work with on this project. They’re under excellent guidance from John and Danai and I cannot wait to see what they produce over the next nine months.’
Film Composers Lab is delivered with kind support from the Common Humanity Arts Trust and Vaughan Williams Foundation.
