Tribute to John Clark Posted Tue 26 July 2022
It is with much sadness we share the heartbreaking news that RSNO Double Bass player John Clark passed away at home on 7 July 2022.
Loving husband and devoted father, he will be missed by his family, the RSNO family and all who knew him. John has been an integral part of musical life in Scotland for nearly five decades, playing with virtually every orchestra and ensemble in the country including Glasgow and Strathclyde Schools’ Symphony Orchestras, NYOS (John was a founding member), Scottish Baroque Players, Scottish Bach Consort, Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and, of course, the RSNO.
A talented multi-instrumentalist, John also played accordion and bass guitar, and he once had the honour of appearing as a soloist in a performance of the Dragonetti Double Bass Concerto, in a special memorial concert for Sir Alexander Gibson.
John loved to share his knowledge and passion for orchestral music with everyone around him, and the ripple effect of his unique character, charisma and charm will continue to influence and inspire people for generations to come.
Instead of flowers, John’s family have kindly asked that donations are made to the RSNO’s ‘Play your Part’ appeal, a matter that was very close to John’s heart. To donate in John’s memory, please click here.
